Penn State Hazleton’s Student Government Association and Student Athlete Advisory Board will sponsor an event to show support for the Alzheimer’s Association at the basketball games against Penn College on Thursday. During the women’s and men’s games, which begin at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively, the teams will don purple gear in honor of and memory of family members and friends dealing with the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.

Penn State Hazleton seniors Diego Jimenez and Casey Petty have personal experiences with Alzheimer’s disease affecting their grandmothers. Jimenez’s grandmother, Trinidad Jimenez, passed away in December 2013 and Petty’s grandmother, Bernadine Petty, passed away in October 2012 from the disease.

In addition to the basketball teams, the Lion Ambassadors will host a purple "H-Zone" for the games and the Student Athlete Advisory Board will be selling purple Alzheimer's ribbons.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Trinidad Jimenez and on behalf of both student groups.
