Student awarded grant to accompany biology professor on research project

Penn State Hazleton student Lawrence Klomps was awarded a $2,500 Undergraduate Summer Discovery Grant in support of his proposed research project “Nest-site characteristics of mountain plovers breeding on prairie dog colonies in northeastern New Mexico.”  This grant was awarded by the Penn State Office of Undergraduate Education through a competitive process with more than 70 applicants from many Penn State campuses applying for grants. Thirty grants were awarded. Klomps will use the funds to accompany Assistant Professor of Biology Christopher Goguen to New Mexico during summer 2010 to help conduct research on the mountain plover, a rare bird species that is currently being considered for the federal endangered species list.
