Dear Friends:

Thank you for your interest in Penn State Hazleton. It is through the support of alumni and friends like you that this campus is able to fulfill the Penn State mission of teaching, research and service to our communities. We are entirely grateful for your support.

As I’m sure you know Penn State Hazleton is unique in many respects. Here, our students have the opportunity for a world-class education which can open countless doors to their future and enable them to make substantial contributions to society. At the same time, a very distinct benefit of this campus is the access to faculty, staff and resources that you would expect at a small private college.

Our high-caliber faculty and staff, the vast resources of Penn State University, our campus location and aesthetics all combine to add to our distinction. In fact, many of our alumni tell me that it is this unique combination of benefits which has contributed to their success. This campus has a long lineage of accomplished alumni whose legacy we are committed to living up to.

As we turn our sights to the future, we recognize and are responding to an increasingly competitive environment in higher education. Shrinking state appropriations and rising costs are putting increasing pressure on tuition rates and making a Penn State degree harder to attain for many students. State appropriations to the university have shrunk dramatically in recent years. The simple fact is that today only about one-third of our operating funds come from state appropriations while the remainder is sourced through private funds.

With this in mind, I’m asking for your support of this campus. Your contributions can have a profound impact here. Funds raised from individuals, corporations and foundations are used to help us make a Penn State education possible for many deserving students for whom it might otherwise be out of reach.
